Sadie Hawkins Dance

The Sadie Hawkins Dance is scheduled for November 21st. Girls get to invite the boys. Come up with a cute creative way of inviting him and let us know. You could win a prize. Pictures will be taken that night so get shopping and find some matching shirts for the pics.

October Field Trip

The date has been changed for the October field trip. We will go October 30th. Sorry for the confusion. The invitation to attend the National conference was something I couldn't pass up and such an honor to be included that I know everyone understands. I'll come back with tons of great information to share. Our field trips are always so much fun. The scavenger hunt is a blast! Have your detective hat on and be ready, there are new things to search for this year!!

The New and Improved Hillside!!

This isn't related to Art Classes but the new hillside behind the school is looking great and I wanted to share it with everyone. After several years of watching it slowly slide down toward the building crews are fixing things so that the hill will stay where a hill is suppose to be! :o)

Gathering Leaves on a Beautiful Day!

We went out to gather different varieties of leaves for a design we'll be working on the next three or four days. Students are going to place those leaves on the surface of their paper and trace each one using the principles of design repetition, variety, balance and movement. Final projects will be posted next week.

Several photos coming up

Hey gang! I have several photos to post but can't get to it until tomorrow evening. We went out to gather leaves for our most recent project so I snapped a few pics while we were there. It was a beautiful day to be out except for the dust from the dozer out on the hillside. What a different look the back of the school has now. You can actually see the ball field! We have some ideas for the hillside once all the dust has settled and finishing touches are made. I'll tell you more about that later. Have a great weekend.

Class Quilt Update

The quilt is coming along nicely but taking me way longer than I had hoped to piece it together and ready for hanging. My target date for hanging it on display is the last of September. I never dreamed there would be so much going on that would prevent me from working on it. It will get there though!

KG did a fabulous job!

The Letter 8. . .I know, I know!!!!!!

Students were given a simple project, create a design using our principles and using only the number 8 ( I said it right that time gang!) and squares. We have some interesting and creative work.

Media Release

Not everyone in class has turned in their media release form so if you don't see your picture on our blog that is why. Get those forms in so we can post some fun pictures of everyone.

Taking a break for a quick photo

Pencil sketches and Freestanding Sculptures

Tori is adding the finishing touches to her Watch drawing. Her pencil sketch consisted of two watches enlarged to show details and also more shading techniques...The object of our Freestanding sculpture assignment was to create a three dimensional paper sculpture that stands on it's own without using any tape, staples or glue.

Field Trip Thursday!

We took a field trip Thursday. Some of the kids said it was pretty "Random". It had totally slipped my mind what the plan was for the morning so once the kids got settled into their work I just blurted out, "Oh, we're going on a field trip!!!!" I love to be spontaneous. We walked down to Mr. Morgan's room to see the freestanding sculpture of Henry Clay that Mr. Morgan's classes have been restoring. It was a perfect way to visually show the students what freestanding means. Termites had nearly destroyed the old Judge Elm sculpture. Livingston County history says that the old tree that Clay is carved from was where hangings occurred in town. The tree was located in front of the Gower House but when lightening struck and destroyed the tree it's trunk was saved and carved into the likeness of Henry Clay.

Taking a break.

Having fun and making Art

Working on her Tile!

T is working on some pretty intricate details on her ceiling tile this week. It's coming along nicely. I know you T. you'll finish way sooner than I expect and then I'll be pulling rabbits out of my hat to keep you focused!! :o) Keep up the good work!

Long Short Weeks!

Why are the short weeks always so long? I had hoped to post some photos of some of the students working this week but checking media release forms took me longer than anticipated so it will be tomorrow before I can upload some pics. We're working on freestanding paper scuptures and getting some great end products. I am eager to post some photos of their work. Keep checking!! I promise there will be pictures tomorrow.

Experimenting with Unusual Media

Students discovered this past week that art doesn't have to be made of traditional media such as paint, pencils, pastels, or clay. Taking the unusual and creating fun fabulous pieces is all part of the world of Art. We chose the medium of food, and not just any food but Cheetoes!!! Art II and III students and sweet little E.T. who is the only Art I student in second period class, brought in their favorite type of Cheetoes and together created a masterpiece of delectable delight. Throw in a little digital wizadry and we have a cool abstract work of art. It was FUN!!!!
