More Art III sketches.

The assignment was trees, any kind of trees you like and the medium was of their choosing. D and J both love to work with pencil and always do an incredible job. Looks like we're going to have some great pieces for competition.

More of our finished pontilism drawings.

The lesson is on the art element of value. Shading objects can come in the form of hatching, cross hatching or in the form of dots. This project is probably one of the least favorite of my art students because it is so intense. I hear comments like, "This is going to take me forever!" "I'm getting a headache from all these dots!" And last but not least, "I think I'm going crazy!" The end product is always impressive and sticking with it is another lesson to be learned. And as I told MG today, "Maybe this will teach you patience."

Portfolio

Just a reminder that everyone needs two sheets of posterboard that we will use as a portfolio for all of your work this school year. Today when I left Wal Mart I saw someone carrying two bright pink sheets of poster board and I wondered if she might be one of mine!!! It was! O I saw you and way to go for remembering to get it while you were in Paducah!!!

Today we were all a bunch of cut ups in Art I classes. Well, not really cutting up in our behavior but we did cut up tons of old magazines so that we could make our collages. We just finished our first chapter and today we are using all of the Art Elements and Principles of Design to create some really cool designs. This activity helps to reinforce those terms and we get to have fun at the same time. Advanced Classes are wrapping up their shading exercises with a final project tomorrow which will be to draw and actual apple. First students will do a basic contour drawing, no shading, next they will add lots of shadows and detail, the next step will be to take a slice out of the apple and sketch again and finally they will use a view finder and do simple thumbnail sketches of the apple abstracting each sketch. Should be fun. T.M. suggested we even slice the apple more and make stamp designs. Hope to post some of those when we are all finished. Stay tuned!!! Oh I almost forgot. The first brush strokes have been made on the senior Art IV ceiling tiles.

Advanced Art II students are using their shading techniques to draw their hands in different positions.

Class Quilt

Students in Art I classes are working on quilt blocks that will be used for a class quilt that will go on display in our classroom and hopefully in the Commons Area for all to see.

Meet The Teacher

I thought that introductions would be appropriate as we begin this new school year and since we have high hopes that many will stop by to check out our blog I wanted to introduce myself at the start. My name is Nancy Smith and I've been teaching at Livingston Central for 15 years. I'm originally from Muhlenburg County, Ky. I grew up in the small town of Bremen. I attended Western Kentucky University where I recieved both my Bachelors and Masters Degrees. I'm proud to be a Hilltopper!! I'm currently working on my Rank I at Murray State. I'm working toward an Endorsement in Environmental Education. I have three grown children and two cats named Socks and Millie. I love to travel and while on my journeys I like to take tons of photos. At Livingston Central I am the sponsor of the LCHS Art Club, FCA and Co-sponsor of the Student Council. I'm very active in my church which is in Paducah, Ky. I've been a member there for 8 years. It's going to be an exciting year and I hope you stop by often to check out what's going on with the Art Classes at LCHS!
